Rumpus to Self-contained unit - Renovation

"Elmarié worked with us in redesigning a rumpus into a self-contained unit. Her interpretation and enhancement of our ideas was amazing.  Space saving ideas like using cavity sliders and placing alcoves in the walls were genius.  We were impressed with her suggestions of creative bed placement options to increase space and flow.

We look forward to working with her again." - Robyn -

                                         Before

The Client had been renting out accommodation in one of the rooms in the main house, but wanted to have some privacy back. It was decided that the underutilised rumpus area would be ideal for this purpose. This room was initially used as a workshop and turned into a store room over the years. With its own entrance that opened up to a private courtyard it was the ideal space to create a self-contained unit.

                                            After

  • The entrance into the main house was concealed with a false wall made with recycled pallet planks

  • The existing gib board around the concrete chimney was removed, creating more space for shelving in the bedroom and bathroom area

  • New energy efficient downlights was installed

  • A new kitchenette and bathroom layout was design to best utilise available space

  • A fresh coat of paint to ceiling and walls completed the project
